A: The Firm’s culture can best be described as a team. Rather than a loose association of attorneys, the partnership operates more as a single unit to obtain the best results for our clients.
Q: What kind of work will I be exposed to as a summer associate?
A: Summer associates are exposed to the variety of the Firm’s practice by becoming involved in projects for real clients. Summer associates will conduct legal research on a variety of topics; attend depositions, hearings, trials, and client meetings; draft pleadings and contracts; and observe attorneys in their daily practices. Assignments will come directly from the attorneys whose clients have the issues presented, rather than from a single source.
Q: Will I have the opportunity to seek out work of particular interest to me?
A: Our Firm is not divided into specific departments, so summer associates will not be assigned to a department. Instead, summer associates will work with partners and associates in all areas of the Firm’s practice. Summer associates are encouraged to make their interests known. Projects in those areas of interest will then be assigned to them as the work is available.
Q: What is the structure of the summer associate program?
A: Summer associates are under the general direction of the recruiting partner who will meet with them at least monthly to discuss their work and ensure that they are getting a well-rounded experience. Each summer associate is also assigned a senior associate to be his or her mentor and monthly mentor meetings will be held. Such meetings are designed to promote two-way communication and feedback, but the majority of feedback provided to the summer associates is the daily feedback they can expect on the projects they are assigned.
